Our (short) Story

Overcome International was started to honor the sacrifice of a mother, who fled Romania in 1988 with her two children and navigated two borders before arriving in the United States to escape socialist/communist persecution. Here she and her family started a business and inspired us with her courage and strength.

Overcome International was started when – upon watching TV and seeing refugees from Ukraine crossing an international border a few days after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022 – we could not stand by and do nothing. We felt compelled to act, we had to jump to their aid, encourage them, and we had to help tell their stories.

These two tectonic plates, one grinding for thirty years, the other ramming into it in February 2022, created the necessary earthquake to get us motivated to start this effort. We dedicate it to all who have the courage to be strong, good, and wise and who overcome circumstances, oppression, and even tyranny – may we learn from you and be brave like you.

What drives us

It is the call of each generation, and each one of us to keep freedom alive, to live successful lives, and to make the world a better place. However, the twin cancers of fear and selfishness eat away at the core of our humanity, our communities, and our society. Driven by fear and selfishness millions of people were killed in the last century (under German holocaust, Communist halogaist, and American Consumerism of the 20th century). Millions today complain, blame, and wait for someone else to step up – they accept the status quo.

We must be strong, good, and wise to affirm life, keep freedom alive, pursue happiness, and make the world a better place – and that takes courage. Courage to confront our status quo.

We seek to learn courage from Stories of Incredible Courage, and we seek to spark courage to overcome fear and complacency.
